Canis dirus
Item Number: BC-020T
Although not directly relating to any of today’s species of canines, the Dire Wolf co-existed with the Grey Wolf in North America for about 100,000 years. With a brain case significantly smaller than those of contemporary canines, the Dire Wolf had shorter, stockier legs and a larger skull with more massive teeth. There have been more remains of Dire Wolves found in the La Brea tar pits than any other mammal.
