A large male Walrus can weigh upwards of 3,500 pounds and have tusks as much as one meter long. The tusks have multiple uses including fighting, eating, digging underwater, and as ice picks to use as leverage to pull themselves out of the water and onto ice flows. They are distributed widely throughout the Arctic where they feed primarily on bottom-dwelling invertebrates.
